Owner and general mum boss of Nurturing Mums – Lucinda Hutton is pregnant for the second time. As you know, it took a little bit longer than Lucinda had anticipated to get pregnant… you may have seen her post on trying to conceive – does this mean she is more than ready for her new arrival? We find out below…
How will you prepare Teddy for an arrival of a brother or sister?
We are going be talking lots about the baby in a really positive way and getting him involved with making choices about the baby’s nursery etc. We want to also keep the focus on him and make sure he doesn’t feel left out as the baby will be going into his room and he’ll be getting a new big boy bed, so there are lots of changes afoot and we want to keep him feeling as secure and happy as possible.
Does your second pregnancy feel more alike or different this time round?
More tiring – if that’s possible?! It feels pretty identical to last time… the constant hangover without the booze. However running around after a toddler means you don’t get the naps and rest I did the first time around.
What advice would you give to mums who are trying for a while for the second time?
Don’t just think it’ll happen automatically because that’s what happened for baby number one. I was pretty naïve in thinking we would be pregnant within a month or so of trying… it took almost a year. Saying that – I wouldn’t get too consumed with the perfect age-gap – there are lots of pros and cons to having babies really close together or that bit further apart.
If you could choose 3 must-have items for a newborn, knowing what you know, what would they be
- A large swaddle muslin to mop up a multitude of sins or to be used as a boob cover or play mat – I love this one by Etta Loves…
- A Tommee Tippee perfect prep machine – I think I’ll be combination feeding and I have one last time and have only heard great things from mums on our courses…
- A baby carrier or sling – being hands free is going to be more important than ever!
How much do you think you’ll remember?
Hopefully a lot – I’m surrounded by new babies A LOT. That being said, I imagine my second baby may be COMPLETELY different to my first so although I may remember lots, it may be of no use!
What are you must worried about and looking forward to about having another baby?
I’m most worried about logistics. My husband leaves the house at 6am so how I’m going to get out of bed and get a newborn and a toddler dressed and to nursery on time is going to be interesting to say the least… I can’t wait for newborn cuddles and quality family time. BRING IT ON!
I’m pleased to say I’ll be attending Nurturing Mums as a customer later on in the year – see you there – I can’t wait!
